The American Society of Health Informatics Managers™, Inc is a professional member association for IT professionals who specialize in Health IT (HIT). ASHIM™ is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that conducts a nationally recognized credentialing exam to certify the healthcare industry knowledge of working level IT professionals, known as the Certified Health Informatics Systems Professional (CHISP™).
ASHIM™ members believe in the importance of a skilled Health IT workforce to best serve the needs of physicians who are using and adopting health IT.
Network professionals, database administrators, communication protocol specialists, web application designers, computer scientists, and software engineers and clinical applications trainers working successfully in Health Information Technology (HIT) recognize healthcare is an increasingly complex and exciting work environment.
ASHIM™ members believe that it is the addition of healthcare skills and knowledge that make an IT professional the best supporter of HIT. These skills help IT professionals make it easier for physicians to use HIT in a manner that improves patient outcomes and overall efficiencies such as: Doctors better able to assess quality, medical necessity, and provision of services and to reduce medical errors and improve patient safety and to more easily recognize and adhere to compliance of legal requirements, current interoperability standards, documentation, billing and payment systems .
ASHIM™ members are dedicated to ensuring effective outcomes by keeping current in the rapidly changing HIT environment and successfully communicating with non-IT healthcare professionals. They demonstrate expertise in the highly-specialized Health IT setting.
