The American Society of Health Informatics Managers™, Inc is the leading association for technical professionals who specialize in Health IT (HIT). ASHIM™ is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that sponsors a credentialing exam known as the Certified Health Informatics Systems Professional (CHISP™).
Our mission is to recognize the individual value of each ASHIM member to support the future of healthcare by providing skill certification, education, community involvement, and member service to the Health IT workforce.
ASHIM members are: One Person. Two areas of expertise— Healthcare and Information Technology.
• EHR Implementation Specialists
• Network Professionals
• Database Administrators
• Data Communications Specialists
• Information Security Specialists
• Software Programmers
• Clinical Applications Trainers
• Other technical professionals working successfully in Health Information Technology (HIT).
ASHIM™ members believe that it is the addition of healthcare skills and knowledge that make a technical professional the best supporter of HIT. These skills help Health IT professionals make it easier for physicians to use HIT in a manner that improves patient outcomes and overall efficiencies, such as the ability to better assess quality, medical necessity, and provision of services and to reduce medical errors while improving patient safety. It also makes it easier for health care providers to recognize and adhere to compliance of legal requirements, current interoperability standards, and documentation, billing and payment systems. CHISP™ certified Health IT professionals are dedicated to ensuring effective HIT outcomes by keeping current in this rapidly changing environment and successfully communicating with non-IT healthcare professionals. They demonstrate expertise in the highly-specialized Health IT setting.
